Economic evaluation of infrastructure: a case study of Beijing-Kowloon Railway

Summary:

Based on the county-level economic data from 1993 to 2003, this paper constructs a "differences-in-differences" model to evaluate the economic effects of the Beijing-Kowloon Railway on the cities along the line. The results show that, under the control of agricultural proportion, the proportion of financial support population and the value-added per capita of secondary industry, the per capita fiscal revenue of the cities along the Beijing-Kowloon Railway Line has increased by about 190 yuan and the estimated GDP has increased by 3.494 billion yuan compared with the cities without stations.
