Summary:
The area of Holyoke, Massachusetts, is a microcosm of many small industrial cities in the past industrial recession. Its regeneration movement has become a typical case for reference. In the face of poverty, changes in racial structure and the loss of manufacturing infrastructure, it is important to take advantage of its strengths to develop an innovative economy, with particular emphasis on sustained leadership and cooperation among enterprises, governments, non-profit organizations and community groups. The Federal Reserve Bank of Boston launched the "Working Cities Challenge" initiative, which sparked widespread interest in urban renewal.
