Introduction
In the contemporary world, tensions between human society and the natural environment keep intensively rising. Faced with severe challenges including resource depletion, ecological degradation and climate change, it is urgent to re-examine and reconstruct the relationship between humans and nature. Written from the perspective of policy researchers, this book discusses the functions of policy instruments in advancing harmonious coexistence between humanity and nature. It consists of four parts: Theoretical Section, Policy Section, Case Study Section, and International Experience Section. Starting with the institutional reform of ecological civilization, it elaborates the central government’s fundamental thinking and governance principles for balancing human and nature relations formulated after the Third Plenary Session of the 18th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China. It introduces innovative landmark policies on natural resource administration and biodiversity conservation, presents distinctive local practical cases featuring pioneering practices across different regions, and finally reviews classic international cases and mainstream global practices.
About the Authors
Wang Yufei
Research Fellow of the Management World Magazine, Postdoctoral Researcher at the School of Public Management, Tsinghua University, PhD from the Research Center for Eco-Environmental Sciences, Chinese Academy of Sciences. His main research focuses on sustainable development policies, with special concentration on low-carbon governance and natural resource management.
Lin Jiabin
Research Fellow at the Development Research Center of the State Council, Vice President of the China Association for International Exchange on Urban and Rural Development. His research covers regional development, territorial spatial planning, sustainable development and social governance.
