Academic Dialogue 16: Housing Policy and Planning in Megacities
Currently, China's megacities generally face severe housing problems such as high housing prices and a shortage of affordable healthy housing. Although various regions have introduced a series of housing policies aimed at stabilizing prices, increasing affordable housing, and improving the balance of work-residential spaces, there is a disconnect between policies and spatial planning. Although China's planning system includes special plans for residential areas, there is a lack of housing special plans that organically combine medium- and long-term urban commercial housing and affordable housing supply and implement them within urban spaces, making it difficult to achieve many policy goals. This academic dialogue will focus on housing policies and planning in megacities, exploring topics such as housing dilemmas, housing policies, housing planning, and the relationship between policies and planning, aiming to form constructive recommendations for housing planning practices in China's megacities, promote the long-term stable and healthy development of the real estate market and affordable housing, and drive high-quality development in megacities.

Peking University Shenzhen Graduate School is the only full-time off-site institution at Peking University. It has established Shenzhen's key humanities and social sciences research base—the Super City Spatial Governance Policy Simulation Social Experiment Center. It focuses on core topics in spatial governance of megacities, such as housing security, urban renewal, and regional coordinated development, conducting basic research and technological development, and exploring collaborative innovation paths for integrating industry, academia, and research in the humanities and social sciences through a social experiment paradigm.
The Peking University–Lincoln Institute Center for Urban Development and Land Policy Research is a non-profit educational and academic research institution jointly established by Peking University and the Lincoln Institute for Land Policy in the United States, dedicated to promoting policy research and talent cultivation in China's urban development and land policy fields. As an international platform for academic research and exchange, the center widely carries out policy research, academic exchanges, educational aid, capacity building, and achievement dissemination.
