Abstract: In recent years, the aging population in China's cities has increased rapidly, and the supply and use of housing, transportation, and open spaces have also undergone significant changes. Meanwhile, many cities have undertaken extensive subway planning and construction. Such large-scale transportation infrastructure has a profound impact on society, the economy, and the health and well-being of residents. However, most empirical evaluation studies at present still focus on relevance rather than causality. This report uses natural experiment research methods to explore the causal pathways of interventions in large-scale urban transportation infrastructure on social, economic, and health impacts.

Speaker: Dr. Sun Guibo, Assistant Professor at the Department of Urban Planning and Design, University of Hong Kong; Director of the Urban Analysis and Intervention Research Office; doctoral supervisor. Main research areas include: healthy cities, large-scale urban design for high-density cities, urban renewal, and large-scale transportation infrastructure supply. He has received the Lincoln Land Policy Center Research Project Award in the United States, the Royal Institute of Planners Outstanding Research Award in the UK, and the University of Hong Kong Research Achievement Award, among others. He has led multiple projects including the National Natural Science Foundation General Program, the Hong Kong Optimal Research Fund, and government and professional agency commissioned projects.
