"Other effective region-based conservation measures (OECM)" refers to areas where effective in situ protection of biodiversity outside protected areas is achieved. Before the 15th Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity, countries and organizations worldwide are discussing how to interpret and apply OECM standards, assess and identify OECMs in their own contexts, and develop laws, policies, and procedures to document OECM

Against this backdrop, it is increasingly important to raise awareness of the OECM among global private and private land conservation communities, and to distinguish between OECM and protected areas (including private protected areas) and the complementarity. This webinar introduced the background of the OECM, its role and importance in achieving goals such as protecting 30% of the planet's land and water by 2030, and the opportunities and challenges brought by advancing biodiversity conservation goals. Guests shared experiences from different countries and organizations in identifying the OECM and incorporating it into conservation policies and practices.

A new model of conservation cooperation—innovation from Australia

Host

Jim Levitt

Director of the International Land Protection Alliance at the Lincoln Land Policy Institute

Guest

Jody Gunn

CEO of the Australian Land Conservation Network

Kate Smillie

Private Land Conservation Project Manager at the Biodiversity Conservation Trust

Gareth Catt

10. Fire management coordinator for desert areas

Brendan Foran

CEO of Green Australia

This webinar demonstrates how Australia can expand its capacity and influence for private land conservation through cross-sector collaboration. The guests first introduced the work of the Australian Land Conservation Coalition, then detailed three case studies: the first focused on the state's investment innovation in long-term private land conservation; The second is the case of NGOs collaborating with indigenous land management organizations to protect large landscapes; The third case introduces the Great Barrier Reef "Coral Reef Assistance" project.
