Since 1970, people in 192 countries have celebrated Earth Day to demonstrate global support for environmental protection, raise awareness of major environmental challenges, and focus on environmental pollution, endangered species, and climate change in the 21st century.
Seizing this opportunity, the ILCN/ELCN Earth Day Online Environmental Protection Conference will emphasize the importance of leadership at all levels of society—from national governments and local authorities to citizens and grassroots organizations—in protecting natural and cultural resources for the benefit of current and future generations. As Earth Day has become a global tradition, continuing to raise environmental awareness with a sense of urgency and determination as we mark its 50th anniversary is more important than ever.
The two keynote speakers, Marta Subirà and Wade Crowfoot, are both leaders in building environmental resilience. They will share reflections on the current status, achievements, challenges, and future directions of nature conservation in their work. The conference will also feature a special message from Prince Charles, the Prince of Wales.
