Private and civic land conservation efforts around the world are critical to meeting ambitious international climate and biodiversity targets. As a key partner in advancing private and civic land conservation, we invite you to join the International Land Conservation Network and Eurosite – the European Land Conservation Network as we convene this remarkable, global community of practice at our 2021 Global Congress.


The Congress will take place virtually from December 8-10, 2021

The Congress has five main themes: Conservation Finance, Organization and Governance, Law and Policy, Land Stewardship and Management, Landscape-Scale Conservaiton and Restoration:

Conservation in the 21st Century: The Green Recovery and Realizing 30x30



Private and civic land conservation is central to achieving international climate and biodiversity ambitions and targets coming out of this year’s One Planet Summit, the United National Climate Change COP26 and the Convention on Biological Diversity COP15.

The 2021 Global Congress will kick off with a keynote panel addressing the critical part that civil society will play in recovering from the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, realizing the protection and sustainable management of 30% of the globe’s lands and waters by 2030, and mitigating and adapting to the impacts of a changing climate.

Moderator

Andrew Bowman President, Land Trust Alliance

Andrew Bowman is President and CEO at the Land Trust Alliance, which works to save the places people need and love by strengthening private and civic land conservation across the United States of America. Before joining the Alliance, Andrew served as the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation’s program director for the environment.


Panelists

Dr. Luthando Dziba Managing Executive, Conservation Services, SANParks

Luthando is Managing Executive responsible for Conservation Services at South African National Parks (SANParks). He also serves as Co-chair of the Multidisciplinary Expert Panel of the UN Intergovernmental Science Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES). Previously, Luthando served as the Head of the IPBES Technical Support Unit for the Africa Regional Assessment and later as the co-chair of the Africa Assessment.


Sally Jewell TNC Global Board Member and Former U.S. Secretary of Interior

Sally Jewell is a Global Board Member of The Nature Conservancy. Previously, she served as Interim Chief Executive Officer for The Nature Conservancy. From 2013-2017, Jewell was U.S. Secretary of the Interior. During her tenure, she was recognized for using a science-based, landscape-level, collaborative approach to natural resources management.


Jörg-Andreas Krüger President, Nature and Biodiversity Conservation Union (NABU)

Jörg-Andreas Krüger has since his early youth been involved through NABU and other environmental protection agencies in actively promoting the protection and preservation of biodiversity in Germany. He now serves as NABU’s President, a role to which he was elected in 2019. Previously, Krüger led the specialist unit for biodiversity at WWF Germany.


Professor Li Zhang Secretary-General, SEE Foundation

Li Zhang is a field wildlife biologist and Professor of Ecology at Beijing Normal University. He was appointed as the Secretary General and board member of the Society for Entrepreneurs and Ecology (SEE) Foundation of China in April 2016. Among other roles, Li serves as a member of the board of directors and vice secretary general of the China Zoological Society and is the handling editor of the journal Conservation Biology.

If you cannot join due to time differences, note that recordings of all events and sessions will be available to registrants for 6 months following the conclusion of the Congress. All registrants will have access to the Congress platform and sessions until May 2022.
